Overland Track

Taking in the breathtaking alpine terrain of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, the Overland Track is one of Australia’s most famous multi-day treks.

The Overland Track covers 65 kilometres of magnificent glacial-carved landscapes, ancient old-growth forests and button grass moorlands, ending at the pristine waters of Lake St Lair. Normally trekked over 6 days, the Overland Track must be tackled from north to south during the peak walking season of October through to May, and you need to book and pay a trekking fee.

Outside of these periods, it is free to walk and you can do it in either direction. There are basic huts available along the route, or you can opt for the new “glamping” Cradle Mountain Huts Walk experience that offers more luxurious accommodation within this magnificent wilderness area, accompanied by gourmet meals and Tasmanian wine.
