Southwest National Park, Tasmania, Australia

Stretching for 85-kilometres across the UNESCO World Heritage listed Southwest National Park, the South Coast Track is one of Tasmania’s premier multi-day walks. Most trekkers start from the western end, taking a spectacular light plane flight into the remote airstrip at Melaleuca, before heading towards Cockle Creek through ancient, old growth rainforests and over the Ironbound Range’s alpine terrain.

The area is not only home to the extremely rare orange-bellied parrot, but also untouched stretches of sand where you won’t encounter another soul. While there are designated campgrounds along the South Coast Track, you need to carry all equipment with you and be prepared for the highly changeable weather conditions for which the region is known.
