Wings Wildlife Park

The most popular Burnie attraction

Scenic Drive, Wildlife Thrive: Wings Wildlife Park, Tasmania's Hidden Gem!

Come face-to-face with endearing wombats, friendly wallabies and iconic Tasmanian devils on this very popular guided shore excursion to Wings Wildlife Park. Situated on the banks of the Leven River, this multi-award-winning sanctuary is home to the largest collection of Tasmanian wildlife in Australia.

Departing from Burnie you’ll enjoy a very scenic, one-hour drive to Gunns Plains on the edge of the Dial Range Forest Reserve. Once at Wings Wildlife Park, you’ll have around 2 hours to explore and meet some of the 150 different species that call the park “home”.

Wings Wildlife Park was founded in 1986 by a local family, with most of its wildlife residents having been rescued and rehabilitated following injury. Wherever possible, the animals are then released back into the wild. Those that are unable to be returned to the wild settle permanently at the sanctuary under the dedicated care of its experienced staff.

A highlight is the Tasmanian Devils.

In addition to koalas, kangaroos and quolls, you can get up close to sugar-gliders, wedge-tail eagles and a diverse array of reptiles, such as carpet pythons and central bearded dragons. Wings Wildlife Park is also home to non-native species that include meerkats, capuchins and adorable marmosets, plus American bison, alpacas and camels. Wildlife presentations and feedings are held throughout the day and it’s possible to experience one-on-one animal encounters for an additional charge. A highlight is feeding the Kangaroos.

Once you have toured the park, you can relax with a hot or cold drink at the on-site cafe, which also serves ice creams and delicious meals catering to all dietary requirements. The park gift shop is also well-stocked with wildlife-themed souvenirs.

Our drive back takes us down the Leven Valley to reach the coast and then a drive along the coast via the village of Penguin.
